Teaching History with Curiosity and Context
About Maurica French
I am a certified social studies educator with over thirteen years of experience teaching Advanced Placement courses, including APUSH, AP World History, AP Human Geography, and AP Seminar.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science Secondary Education and a Master of Education in Trauma-Informed Learning and Social Emotional Learning. My academic training and classroom experience have prepared me to help students understand complex historical content and perform effectively under academic pressure.
I also served as an AP Exam Reader, scoring DBQs and gaining direct insight into how AP exams are evaluated and scored.
I am currently certified to teach social studies in North Carolina, Illinois, and Florida.

My Approach
Over the course of my teaching career, I have seen that students rarely struggle because they lack intelligence or effort. More often, they struggle because they feel overwhelmed by the volume of material and uncertain about how to apply what they know under timed conditions.
My approach focuses on clarity.
I help students identify major historical themes, understand how exams are evaluated, and develop structured strategies for applying content effectively.
I hold high standards, but I do not believe fear improves performance. Students perform best when expectations are clear, preparation is structured, and support is steady.
My goal is to help students build both intellectual clarity and emotional steadiness as they prepare for the APUSH exam.
